Links to Start Your Week 6/2/13

I’m going to write a longer piece on this later in the week, but this seems to be a good overview of the situation in Istanbul, Turkey, where protesters have gathered to prevent the demolition of a city park to build a shopping mall. It seems to be snowballing into a bigger protest for greater involvement in governmental decision-making.

In case you haven’t heard, China has been hacking U.S. defenses, including missile designs. The U.S. and China are set to begin talks on the issue of cybersecurity to try and defuse tensions over the issue.

You’ve probably heard about the attack on a British soldier in Woolwich, Britain. Ten arrests have been made in that case. Glenn Greenwald has an article I think is well worth reading on the issue. And since then, there has been a gas bomb attack on a mosque in the U.K. that may have been the result of anti-Muslim sentiment after the murder.

The ICC plans to prosecute Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Muammar Gaddafi, for crimes against humanity during the 2011 conflict in Libya. The Libyan government is appealing that decision.
